Sapporo Winter Snow Festival is held annually in early February. We timed our Niseko & Sapporo visit to capture this popular event. More than 2.5 million visitors flock here to admire the amazing ice and snow scultptures. The sculptures are constructed by Japan’s Naval army troops.
The city also known for their great beer and ramen. Also with the cold temperature, mutton/lamb dishes are local’s favourite as known to keep body warm.
The ramen in Japan are different in every region. Sapporo’s miso ramen with thick egg noodles is one of our favourite style. Especially topped with corn & butter. Their Ramen Street is a must visit and we tried many of the stalls, it’s all very good.
It’s a very walkable city in the winter despite the below zero celsius temperature as they have heated major sidewalks plus an underground pedestrian shopping/restaurants area that stretches a few kilometers.

Famous Ramen Street – stalls sell own version of ramen. We tried many of them and all very good in own way.
