The Plaza de España was built for the Expo of 1929. Today, the central government departments are located here. Many locals use this open area and the neighbouring Maria Luisa Park for running, biking and boot camp classes.
Sevilla residents really enjoy their evening runs. Given the cooler temperature at night, they often exercise pass midnight. When walking in Sevilla, we are often steering left and right to let large running groups pass.
The Plaza de España has also been used as a filming location, including scenes for the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia. The building was used as a location in the Star Wars movie series — Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace(1999) and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) — in which it featured in exterior shots of the City ofTheed on the Planet Naboo.[5]
