Granada is a city with population around 300,000 and 25% of them are students attending University of Granada. Aside from the Alhambra, the city is known for their tapas. As in FREE tapas! The tapa is courtesy of the bar owner when you purchase a drink (alcholic or non-alcoholic). We tried various bars and there was a range of free tapas. Usually the first tapas is more basic. As you progress in your drinks, the level of tapas gets better. The beer & wine is about 1 Euro more than Seville but not a bad compromise for free tapas. Drinks range from 2.00 – 3.50 Euros. The students campus area have more basic tapas with cheaper drinks.
The message from the bars usually says “Tapas are a present, cannot choose your free tapas”.
Our favourite tapas/wine bar is Taberna La Tana, we stumbled across this one as it was a wine bar. Granada is famous for it’s beer and wine bar is different. The free tapas was amazing and the owner/bartender Jesús made our experience memorable.
