Tomatoes with burrata, green basil jelly & lemon sorbet on top – Tapas

Since the start of this journey, there has been great food experiences and we lightly touched on the subject here and there.  But Seville’s cuisine is a whole post on it’s own.  The cuisine itself is amazing, but also their finesse, and ingredients to complete the plate.

Spanish tapas varies in different cities/regions.  The origin of tapas was from Andalusia region of Spain over 800 years ago.  We dined at fast tapas bars, full entree restaurants and sit down tapas.  The fast tapas are almost always standing up at bar area.  It’s a tight squeeze in popular restaurants.  Most people eat a few quick dishes and maybe move to next restaurant.

In Madrid, we saw some super fast tapas where they order, plates are slided to them faster than they can finish the sentence.  The dishes are very basic, ham, bread, chorizo etc.  The locals love it because it’s cheap, people can socialize any time of the day there as it’s opened from early morning till late.  They go to there during their siestas.

The tapas in Seville is much cheaper than Madrid’s restaurants.  Most people have already told us before we headed to southern Spain.  But we were caught by surprise how cheap and also delicious too.   Most dishes in the photos below are considered tapas.  They are on the larger end of tapas portions.  The photos below are all dishes from Seville in the various styles of dining and range from 2.50 Euros to 4.75 Euros and larger entrees around 10.00 Euros max.

But one thing remains the same throughout Spain, their dinner starts around 9pm onwards.   We find ourselves sleeping very late at times given the full stomach leaving the restaurant at midnight.
