Pandas!

While in Madrid, we discovered there are Giant Pandas in their Madrid Zoo.  They are the most adorable animal and it was a treat to see them.  We saw the baby panda and his parents.  Our last trip to a zoo was 5 years ago in San Diego.  To our surprise, this Madrid Zoo is nothing like the San Diego experience.  There were no crowds, no line ups and very intimate.  The panda sanctuary was almost deserted.  We were the only ones standing there for a very long time.  The visitors were mostly locals with their children.

The first few pictures shows the baby panda, Xing Bao sleeping high up on a tree.  It almost look like a stuffed panda hanging up in those branches.  We waited around for awhile in hopes of seeing him climb down.  The video shows Xing Bao making his way down the tree after a long nap 🙂

The mama panda spent some time playing with Xing Bao after his nap, then went off to eat more bamboo.  Papa panda was in a separate sanctuary.  The Madrid Zoo is a good break from the historical sites, museums excursions.
